On Turning Twenty...

Monday I lay my teen years to sleep,
Icing over the adolescent tombstone.
"Here lies one decade, nine years"
As I begin to seep into my dark, dense ten times two(s).

Trudging onward toward my terrible worries
of credit scores, federal taxes, and dreaded thirties
As I bury the remains of innocence troubled
And draw nearer to salary instead of ten by-the-hour.

So that higher learning can ascend into flight
Avoiding cubicles and late Monday nights.
And accepting those critical nine to fives.
Goodbye, so long, take care my childhood.

And there, on the cold, hard stone it reads, "Here lies my childhood".
